This election season, we’re getting out the vote for candidates who will defend our food, water, and climate. Check out our work and how you can get involved!

This election season is a make-or-break moment in our fight for a livable climate, a fair food system, and public water for all. Food & Water Action is putting our all into getting out the vote and ensuring we have more food, water, and climate champions in our government. With a wide network of allies and volunteers, we’re connecting with voters one-on-one on the issues that matter to them.

So far this election season, we have driven more than 400,000 calls to voters and knocked on 50,000 doors in key races up and down the ballot. This work is essential to getting champions into office — from local seats to Congress — and Kamala Harris to the White House.

It’s part of our winning strategy that has helped elect progressives and keep right-wing extremists out of office, despite corporate influence. It’s also building a movement and a community dedicated to ensuring a livable future.

A crowd assembles in a parking lot holding signs that says "Laura Gillen for Congress."
More than 100 canvassers with Food & Water Action and allies gather to knock doors for Laura Gillen. Gillen is running to unseat one of the most vulnerable Republicans in Congress in NY District 14. She has a track record of holding corporate polluters accountable and is committed to defending safe, affordable, public water.

Calling Voters By the Hundreds of Thousands

Amid the stream of nonstop political messaging in battleground districts, having one-on-one, human-to-human conversations is one of the most powerful ways to get out the vote.

Food & Water Action is driving calls to boost turnout in vital races across the country. So far, we’ve made more than 360,000 calls to New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Iowa, and Arizona voters.

Every week in October, we paired phone-banking events with Candidate Chats: conversations with our endorsed candidates. We kicked off the series with Josh Riley who is running for Congress in New York’s contested 19th District. (We’ve driven more than 84,000 calls to District 19 voters alone!)

Riley will fight for transformational policies that benefit farmers and rural communities, while curbing Big Ag’s power. At the same time, he’ll oppose Big Oil’s influence on politics, hold polluters accountable, and support a green future that strengthens our communities and economy. He, like all of our endorsed candidates, is fighting for a sustainable future that lifts up everyone — not just moneyed interests.

There’s still time! Volunteer from anywhere in the country to call voters in key districts.

Knocking Doors in Key Races

One of Food & Water Action’s biggest strengths is our networks, built over years, in key battleground districts. This fall, we’ve assembled teams of dedicated canvassers to knock on doors and get out the vote.

For instance, Southwest Pennsylvania is a linchpin of state and national politics. The region is a fracking hub in the country’s second-most heavily fracked state, to the detriment of the environment, public health, and local economies. Getting out the vote here is key to electing the next president, as well as local and state allies who will turn the tide against fracking.

In the 2022 midterms, Food & Water Action mobilized 20,000 door-knocks in Allegheny County, PA. We helped propel progressives Summer Lee and Chris Deluzio to their first terms in Congress, and we helped elect the first Pennsylvania Democratic State House in more than a decade.

This year, we’re working even harder. Since August, Food & Water Action has assembled dozens of canvassers to knock on more than 25,000 doors in Pennsylvania so far.

In October, Food & Water Action staff from around the country convened in Allegheny County. Staff knocked on 1,300 doors in a single day — and we will keep working tirelessly to get out the vote into election day.

Building Community to Counter Corporate Power

Fighting for a livable future often requires confronting corporations that are profiting off of environmental, health, and economic harms in our communities. Our endorsed candidates are standing up to these companies and putting workers, farmers, and families first.

Rep. Chris Deluzio has been a leader in this fight, especially in the wake of a train derailment and chemical disaster that still impacts his constituents and neighbors in Ohio today. He is pushing to stop the cost-cutting practices that enabled this. As he told us:

“That goes, to me, to the heart of corporate power, and whether our government’s going to stand up for my community and others’ to keep us safe, so we’re not just treated like collateral damage in the way of their profits. That’s a fight that I’m proud to be in, and I’m in for as long as it takes.”

Similarly, across the country in Arizona’s battleground District 6, Kirsten Engel is running to combat the extractive industries worsening drought and extreme heat for Arizonians.

“We have the combination of climate impacts, where the fossil fuel industry is fueling that, and we also have industrial agriculture, which has really been robbing us of our water and our future,” she explained at a recent Candidate Chat. Engel will stand up to Big Ag and Big Oil corporations and fight for good jobs, clean energy, and Arizona’s water.

While corporations aim to block these candidates with huge spending, we can counter that with people power. Food & Water Action’s winning strategy has always been connecting with voters to overcome corporate cash and win the future we need.

By coming together, we’re building a movement that will outpower big money in politics. And, we’re forging connections in our communities that strengthen and prepare us for the work ahead.

You’re Helping Us Build a Livable Future This November and Beyond!

With passionate advocates like you, Food & Water Action is fighting corporate power and far-right extremists who put profit before people. Together, we’re working toward a fair, sustainable food system; clean, affordable water; and a livable climate for all.

In the final days of the election season, we’re doubling down on all our efforts. And it’s not too late to join in! You can sign up to call voters, knock doors, or make a gift to power our work.

But the work isn’t over after November 5. Even after the ballots are counted, Food & Water Action will continue building the people power we need to secure a brighter future. Thank you for joining us!
