Today, Food & Water Action, the political arm of the national advocacy organization Food & Water Watch, endorsed Yvette Valdés Smith in the race for New York’s 39th Senate District, covering portions of Dutchess, Putnam, and Orange Counties.

Yvette won the endorsement based on her impressive record on climate and other environmental issues. Valdés Smith is firmly committed to moving New York to 100 percent renewable energy, stopping fossil fuel infrastructure projects and protecting publicly-owned water systems from corporate takeover. 

With the endorsement, Food & Water Action New York Director Laura Shindell issued the following statement:

“Yvette Valdés Smith is a true climate leader, and the fighter the Hudson Valley needs. As a Dutchess County legislator, she has consistently fought for clean food and water and stood up to corporate polluters. She worked alongside Food & Water Action and the climate movement in the successful fight to stop the proposed Danskammer fracked gas power plant and the fight to keep radioactive waste out of the Hudson. She has consistently stood with people over polluters, and we’re excited to stand with her now in her run for state senate.”
